About the Course

Discover the expressive potential of drypoint, a tactile and immediate form of intaglio printmaking known for its rich, velvety lines. Perfect for drawers, sketchers and people who love expressive mark-making, this medium is an excellent way to transform your drawings into unique prints! Led by printmaker Kate Dean, this one-day course introduces the basics of the process, with plenty of room for experimentation and personal exploration.

Drypoint involves drawing directly into the surface of a perspex plate using a sharp tool. The lines create a fine ridge, or burr, which holds the ink and gives prints their soft, textured quality. After creating your plate, you will learn the process of inking up and use a traditional etching press to transfer your image to paper. Kate will also show you how to experiment with different techniques to create multi-colour etchings! You’ll leave with a small edition of prints (around 10), along with your drypoint plate.
